Day One

Yipeeeee...we are on the road.

Left out about 10am, which was a little later than planned, but it worked out okay. Weather today was great for riding. The sky was a sunny overcast. At times it was actually cool with the high staying around 80 and most of the time it was in the seventies....perfect for a trip.

We left out of Suwanee (home) taking GA20 over to I-75 and headed north. By noon were were in Chattanooga, TN, Chattanooga is a neat place for tourists. However it (like most of what we did today) is familiar terrritory to me and not too intersting. In Chattanooga we jumped onto I-24 and headed towards Nashville, TN, better known as Music City USA and more importantly.my birthplace. There is plenty to see and do in Nashville, but we were just passing through. We ended the day in Paducah, KY, still on I-24 about 3 miles south of the Illinois border. We pulled in about 6pm local time, having gained an hour when we crossed into the Central Time Zone just west of Chattanooga.

We checked into a hotel, got some dinner and then returned to the hotel for the night. It was a good day. We made good time on the road, traveled about 410 miles through three states and had great weather all the way. We arrived relaxed, not too tired and looking forward to tomorrow.

Maria got a few pictures from the back of the bike that I will try to post tomorrow. There is a shot of the Tennessee River just west of Chattanooga, a road shot as we crossed Monteagle Mountain between Chattanooga and Nashville and a nice shot of the Nashville skyline as we passed by. I WILL get these posted tomorrow night along with any pictures from tomorrow.

Tomorrow's objective is to get to St Joseph, MO. It will be a 475 mile day taking us through Illinois and Missouri. Forecast for tomorrow is much the same as it was for today.

Goodnight.
